Srinagar, Feb 05 (KNO): The Jammu and Kashmir Government on Thursday said that a total capital infusion of over Rs 357 crore has been provided to Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU), Rajouri, and Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST), Awantipora, since their inception.
In a written reply to an Un-Starred Assembly Question tabled by MLA Waheed-ur-Rehman Para, the Higher Education Department, according to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) informed that BGSBU has received Rs 59.91 crore, while IUST has been provided Rs 297.54 crore as capital infusion over the years.
The reply revealed that capital funding to IUST began in 2008–09 with ₹350 crore, followed by Rs 407.50 crore in 2009–10. From 2011–12 onwards, year-wise capital infusion to IUST continued, including Rs 924.40 crore in 2011–12, Rs 775 crore in 2012–13, Rs 1,230 crore in 2013–14 and Rs 2,500 crore in 2014–15.
The IUST received its highest capital support of Rs 6,000 crore during 2015–16, followed by Rs 1,599.02 crore in 2016–17 and Rs 1,300 crore in 2018–19. In recent years, the university received Rs 2,155.58 crore in 2023–24 and Rs 2,820.70 crore in 2024–25, while Rs 2,749.55 crore has been earmarked for 2025–26.
For BGSBU, capital infusion started in 2011–12 with Rs 400 crore, followed by Rs 564.62 crore in 2012–13 and Rs 400 crore in 2013–14. The university received Rs 550 crore in 2015–16, Rs 450 crore in 2017–18 and Rs 848.43 crore in 2020–21.
In the last few years, BGSBU was provided Rs 703.88 crore in 2021–22, Rs 422.98 crore in 2022–23, Rs 183.11 crore in 2023–24, Rs 44 crore in 2024–25 and Rs 187 crore in 2025–26, the reply said.
